Results of survey

Question 1
What age range do you think that the school magazine should be targeted at?
43.3% said the magazine should be targeted at Key Stage 3.

The information from this question has shown me that the most popular target audience was Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 5. This has led me to choose Key stage 3, my original audience. This information could slightly alter my initial design. The change would be brighter colours and simpler language for younger people to understand.

Question 2
Are you..? (Male/Female)
51.7% of females voted and 48.3% of males voted.

This has shown that more females have answered than males. This could suggest that the magazine will be popular with females and should maybe include more information and pictures that boys will be interested. This will ensure that my magazine appeals to a broader audience. This information would alter my initial design because I will need to include more information that would appeal to boys.
The highest genre of magazine bought was fashion at 56.7%.. the lowest was film at 6.7%
From this I can see that the most commonly bought magazines were fashion magazines, with gossip magazines not far behind. This clearly shows me what my target audience is most interested in and what I have to include. This will have no effect on my initial design because I was already including fashion.

Question 4
What would you expect form a school magazine?
70% of people wanted to see school news, while only 40% wanted to see revision tips

This shows me what my target audience are expecting from the magazine. The most popular expectation was ‘School News’, which is good because it doesn’t defeat the idea of the task. The next most popular component was school pictures. This has not altered my initial design in any way because this was one of the main features.

Question 5
How much would you usually spend on a magazine?
50% said they would spend £1.00 to £2.00 on a magazine

From this, I can see that people were most comfortable paying a cheap price (£1.00 - £2.00). This will help me formulate a price in between that will be perfect and affordable for my target audience. This will not affect my initial design.

Question 6
What colours would appeal to you?
70% said they preferred the colour purple, while 13.3 % said they preferred green.

Clearly the most popular colour was purple. This data has helped me to find the preferred colour however; the school colours (Green and Yellow) weren’t as popular. As it is a school magazine, I mite have to go against the survey slightly and add green and yellow so that I have some aspects of the school’s identity and that it fits the brief. This will alter my initial design slightly because I will have to include additional colours.

Question 7
What would you least like to see in a school magazine?
75.9% said that they wouldn't like to see big blocks of text and 51.7% said that they didn't want to see teacher's comments.

This is one of the most important questions, as it shows me what people least would like to see. The aspect my target audience would least like to see, is big blocks of text. I also gave them a chance to comment on other things they wouldn’t like to see. Some of the comments were ‘Horrible Pictures’ and ‘Ugly Boys…’
This hasn’t altered my initial design, but it has helped me find out what they don’t want to see.

Question 8
a section called 'pictures' will be featured in the magazine. What sort of pictures would you like to see?

The most popular request at 83.3% was to see funny pictures of teachers.
From this chart, I can tell that the most popular sort of pictures people would like to see is ‘Funny pictures of teachers’. As pictures will be a main aspect of my magazine, I will be sure to include these and would consider adding the second favourite which was ‘Random’. This section could include random pictures such as a new species or someone doing something funny. This hasn’t changed my initial design because this was already a main feature.
